Chain for chainsaw: Maintenance and Care
1. Main Structure of the Chain
The chainsaw chain is mainly composed of the right teeth, the left teeth, the limit teeth, the middle guide teeth, the connecting piece and the rivets.
II. Performance Parameters
Pitch: The pitch of the chain is the distance between three rivets divided by 2; it corresponds to the pitch of the sprocket. It includes 1/4, 0.325, small 3/8, large 3/8, and 0.404 (in inches; 1 inch = 25.4 mm).
2. Thickness of the middle guide teeth: Corresponds to the width of the guide plate groove. Includes 0.043, 0.050, 0.058, 0.063 (in inches; 1 inch = 25.4 mm).
3. Blade tooth shape: Determines the smoothness of the cut wood. It includes rounded corners, straight corners, and arcs.
4. Number of links: Refers to the total number of teeth on the entire chain.
III. Installation Method
Preparatory work
The chainsaw chain is extremely sharp. To ensure safety, please wear protective gloves and prepare (a Phillips screwdriver and a 13mm wrench) when operating. Operation steps
Push the front cover forward towards the handle to ensure that the chain brake is not locked (that is, to release the brake).
2. Loosen the compression nut and remove the brake assembly.
3. Attach one end of the chain to the sprocket, and place the other end of the saw chain outside the guide plate. The middle guide teeth should fit precisely into the guide slot of the guide plate. Note: The teeth of the chain should face forward!
4. Install the guide plate onto the chainsaw. Note: There will be a device on the brake assembly for adjusting the tension of the chain (including the adjusting screw and the adjusting block. Rotating the adjusting screw can adjust the position of the adjusting block). When installing the guide plate, make sure the adjusting block is inserted into the positioning adjustment hole at the end of the guide plate.
5. Mount the brake assembly onto the chainsaw and tighten the locking nut.
6. Rotate the adjusting screw to adjust the tension of the chain. The adjustment standard is as follows: Lift the middle part of the chain of the guide plate with your hand, and 3 or 4 middle guide teeth should be exposed.
7. Tighten the compression nut. The oil saw guide plate and chain installation are completed.
Cautionary Notes
1. During the initial use of the new chain, it will stretch. It is necessary to frequently check and adjust it to the appropriate tension, as a loose chain can easily derail and may cause rapid wear of the chain and the guide plate.
2. The chain must be securely fastened to the sprocket. After installation, please check it again.
III. Grinding Method
First, increase the tension of the chain to firmly fix it onto the guide plate.
2. Then, following the instructions for using a round file, start from the front and maintain the correct angle. Keep pressing the file forward and continue to file and grind.
3. Based on the actual operation of the chainsaw, make a reasonable choice of the file.
Next, I'll share with you a small experiment involving an oil saw chain.
The situations where an oil saw requires sharpening:
The sawdust turns into powder and more force is required when sawing.
2. The sawing direction is not straight. The vibration increases.
3. Fuel consumption has increased.
Preparations before polishing
Confirm that the unit has stopped operating.
2. Ensure that the chain is installed securely.
3. Use the appropriate-sized round file specifically designed for chains
