Difference between two-stroke and four-stroke engine oils
The main difference is that two-stroke motorcycle gasoline engine oil does not contain the detergent and anti-wear additives required by four-stroke engines.
2. 2T oil refers to the engine oil used in two-stroke engines, also known as combustion oil. It is mixed with gasoline in a specific ratio and burned together with the fuel. As a result, blue smoke can be seen exiting the exhaust pipe. The higher the mixing ratio, the more blue smoke is produced; if no blue smoke appears, it indicates an insufficient oil ratio or lack of oil. This type of oil has relatively low viscosity. Since the oil participates in combustion, it tends to produce more carbon deposits, which may lead to spark plug damage and exhaust pipe clogging.
3. Four-stroke engines use 4T oil, which serves functions such as lubrication, heat dissipation, and cleaning. This oil does not participate in the combustion process.
Therefore, under normal conditions, a four-stroke engine hardly accumulates carbon deposits and does not require cleaning for several years. The muffler also shows no blue smoke; if black smoke appears when the throttle is increased, it indicates that the engine is burning oil.
Maintenance of Two-Stroke Engines
1. For two-stroke engines, use clean gasoline (90# or higher) and dedicated two-stroke engine oil. New engines should be run at idle for 2 hours during break-in. Mix the oil according to a ratio of 25:1 for regular oil and 50:1 for specialized oil.
2. Fueling must be performed with the engine cold.
3. Check whether all components are loose, inspect the drive belt tension, and ensure that all parts are secure.
Maintenance of Four-Stroke Engines
1. Use clean gasoline (90# or higher) and four-stroke engine oil for the four-stroke gasoline engine. Run the new engine at idle for 2 hours to break in, then change the oil before normal operation. Replace the oil approximately every 30 hours of accumulated use under normal conditions. Check the oil level before and after each use.
2. The air filter element should be inspected regularly and cleaned with soapy water or replaced periodically.
3. Check the tightness of bolts on the working parts and other components before and after each use of the machine.
