Function of two-stroke piston rings

Two-stroke engines strictly prohibit reversing or misaligning the piston rings, as this will cause rapid air leakage, decreased power, difficulty starting, unstable idle speed.
Function of two-stroke piston rings
In a two-stroke engine, there are generally two piston rings (gas rings) and no oil ring. The core functions can be summarized in 4 points:
Sealing gas: Firmly attached to the cylinder wall, blocking the gap between the piston and the cylinder liner, preventing the high-temperature gas in the combustion chamber from flowing into the crankcase, ensuring cylinder pressure and power.
Conducting heat dissipation: Transferring the high-temperature heat from the piston top to the cylinder wall, and then removing it through the cooling system to prevent the piston from overheating and burning.
Scraping carbon / oil film: Scraping off the excess lubricating oil on the cylinder wall and combustion carbon to prevent engine oil from entering the combustion chamber, causing engine oil burning, blue smoke emission, and excessive carbon buildup.
Supporting and guiding: Assisting the piston in moving smoothly back and forth in the cylinder, reducing piston oscillation, skew wear, and reducing abnormal noise and wear.
Additional minor points
Two-stroke engine oil participates in the combustion process, so no dedicated oil ring is provided. The oil ring takes care of controlling the oil.
Excessive, broken, or stuck ring gaps will directly lead to decreased power, difficulty starting, and blue smoke emission from the exhaust pipe.
Oil scraping: The oil ring is responsible for scraping off the excess engine oil on the cylinder wall to prevent a large amount of engine oil from entering the combustion chamber, reducing blue smoke emission, carbon buildup, and increased fuel consumption.
Additional key points (maintenance / usage)
Two-stroke engines strictly prohibit reversing or misaligning the piston rings, as this will cause rapid air leakage, decreased power, difficulty starting, unstable idle speed.
Piston ring wear / fracture: Common symptoms include lack of power, smoke emission from the exhaust pipe, significant increase in fuel consumption, and difficulty starting.
The two gas rings have different functions: The upper ring withstands high temperatures and high pressures, while the lower ring assists in sealing and heat dissipation.
