Insufficient power and lack of energy in leaf blowers are common causes and troubleshooting methods.
Two types are described: fuel-powered models (mainly backpack / handheld gasoline engines) and lithium-ion models. The troubleshooting is carried out in order of ease to difficulty:
1. Fuel-powered leaf blowers (most common)
1.1 Air intake system blockage (high incidence)
Air filter clogged with dust and debris: dust and debris blocking the filter, insufficient air intake, excessive fuel mixture, sudden drop in power.
Solution: Remove the filter, clean and dry the sponge type; directly replace the paper type.
Foreign objects in the air intake / air duct: Leaves and cloth strips getting stuck at the air intake and fan wheel, increased wind resistance.
Solution: Turn off the power and extinguish the engine after clearing the foreign objects.
1.2 Fuel / oil circuit problems
Low-quality / expired fuel: Gasoline deteriorates over time and becomes less combustible; mixed oil models with incorrect oil ratio (too much oil) can also reduce power.
Solution: Drain the old fuel and add fresh and qualified two-stroke special mixture oil.
Oil pipe blockage / oil filter blockage: Impurities in the oil tank bottom and oil pipes, poor oil supply.
Solution: Remove and clean or replace the oil filter and oil pipe.
Carburetor carbonization / blockage: Long-term use and poor quality oil causing oil holes and nozzles to be clogged, insufficient oil supply.
Solution: Disassemble and clean the carburetor, replace severely damaged ones.
Spark plug carbonization, abnormal gap, aging: Weak spark, insufficient combustion, unable to reach the maximum speed.
Solution: Remove and clean the carbon deposits, adjust the electrode gap, replace the aged spark plugs directly.
High-voltage pack leakage: Weak power, sudden strong and weak power, lack of energy.
4. Mechanical and transmission problems
Cylinder body, piston ring wear: Insufficient cylinder pressure, insufficient compression, significant power drop, often accompanied by blue smoke and difficult starting.
Exhaust muffler / exhaust pipe carbon blockage: Poor exhaust, exhaust cannot be discharged, engine lacks power.
Solution: Remove and clean the carbon deposits in the muffler.
Worn / deformed fan wheel: Fan wheel slipping, eccentricity, reduced air output, rotating but weak wind force.
5. Operating / gear problems
Wind gate not fully opened, loose throttle cable, unable to fully increase the throttle;
Gear position in low speed / idle gear, switch to high-speed gear.
Simple and quick troubleshooting sequence (priority)
Shut off the engine → Clean air filter, intake port, and air duct debris
Check fuel / battery level, replace fresh fuel / fully charge the battery
Check if the throttle, gearshift, and air vent are fully open
Inspect and clean spark plugs, muffler
If all above are normal, then thoroughly clean the carburetor.
