Key Precautions for Using a Mini Tiller
As an essential helper for farmers, the mini tiller has been widely adopted in the agricultural industry. Its introduction has significantly improved farming efficiency, saved time for farmers, and reduced physical labor. However, as a farming machine, certain operational details are often overlooked during use, which may lead to malfunctions. The following are common issues that are easily neglected when operating a mini tiller:
1. Neglecting maintenance. Some operators believe that performing maintenance once every few days is sufficient, but in reality, wear and tear accumulate gradually over time, making regular maintenance equally important.
2. Improper placement of the timing cover gasket with sealant. When sealant is applied to the timing cover gasket, excess sealant may easily enter the gearbox. Due to prolonged operation and suction from the oil pump, the sealant can readily clog the oil inlet passages, preventing effective lubrication of the connecting rods and crankshaft.
3. If the fuel tank cap leaks, seal it with plastic film. After sealing the fuel tank, prolonged operation creates negative pressure inside the tank, resulting in insufficient fuel supply, causing the machine to emit black smoke during operation and leading to reduced power output.
4. Using water to cool air-cooled engines. Some operators, seeing that the temperature of an air-cooled engine is high, worry about damaging the machine and resort to pouring water over it to help cool it down. This is actually a very wrong practice. Sudden cooling with water causes the cylinder liner to contract abruptly, which can lead to piston ring breakage, cylinder scoring, or even cracking of the cylinder liner.
5. Poor diesel atomization should not be addressed by replacing the fuel injector alone. Besides injector issues, poor atomization may also result from a worn high-pressure fuel pump, leading to insufficient pressure and reduced fuel supply.
6. Randomly removing the air guide cover and wind baffle of the air-cooled engine. Some operators do not understand the function of the air guide cover and wind baffle, mistakenly believing them to be merely dirt shields that can be removed or left in place. As a result, they dismantle these components at will, causing the fan's airflow to become dispersed and thereby losing its cooling effectiveness.
7. Do not overtighten the screws on the engine body. Most micro-tillers are equipped with aluminum alloy engine housings, which are clearly less hard than ductile cast iron. Therefore, all screws on the engine body must be tightened to the specified torque, especially the cylinder head bolts—slightly excessive force can easily cause thread stripping. Also, avoid tightening screws while the engine is hot.
8. Neglecting the quality of fuel and lubricating oil. Poor fuel quality not only reduces engine power but also accelerates wear on the fuel pump and sleeve; the quality of lubricating oil directly affects the machine's starting performance and service life, so it must not be taken lightly.
The above are the key points to keep in mind when using a mini tiller on a daily basis. For any equipment, it is essential to operate according to the user manual, and certain operational details must not be overlooked, as doing so could result in equipment damage.
