The correct usage method of an chainsaw

The core of using an chainsaw lies in safety protection, new machine inspection, standard startup, stable cutting, cooling and stopping, and timely maintenance; throughout the process, both hands must be held firmly, protection against rebound, and no high-altitude operations without protective gear are allowed.

I. Safety Protection (Must Wear)

Head: Safety helmet + goggles / face shield (to prevent wood chips from flying).

Ears: Ear protectors / earplugs (noise level approximately 115 dB).

Hands: Anti-slip and cut-resistant gloves.

Feet: Anti-slip safety boots.

Clothing: Tight, well-fitting, and brightly colored clothes to avoid loose clothing getting caught in the chain.

II. Pre-use Inspection and Filling

1. Fuel Ratio (for two-stroke engines)

Domestic machines: Gasoline: Two-stroke engine oil = 25:1

Imported machines: Gasoline: Two-stroke engine oil = 50:1

Gasoline: 90# or above unleaded gasoline; Engine oil: Special two-stroke engine oil.

Filling: Mix oil to the fuel tank; ** Chain oil (special) ** to the chain oil tank, not using waste engine oil.

2. Inspection of the saw's condition

Chain tension: Pull the chain, the tip of the guide plate should be exposed 1–2mm, release the hand and it will automatically rebound; too loose is prone to detachment, too tight is likely to break the chain.

Brake: Push the brake plate forward → chain braking; Pull backward → release braking (must be released before starting).

Air filter, spark plug, guide plate, fixing screws: No looseness, no damage, clean.

3. Working environment

Clear 10 meters of debris, people, pets; Set up a warning area.

Away from power lines (distance > tree height 1.5 times), buildings.

Weather: No rain, wind force < 5; Rainy days / Strong wind days are prohibited to prevent loss of control and electric shock.

III. Startup Steps (Cold Engine)

Placement: Place the saw flat on the ground, the guide plate suspended without touching the ground; Right foot on the rear handle, left hand on the front handle to fix.

Switch: Turn on the power switch (ON); Pull out the choke (cold engine); Press the fuel pump 3–5 times, when the oil pipe has oil, it is ready.

Start: Quickly pull the start rope 3–5 times, hear the "explosion sound" and immediately push back the choke; Lightly pull the start rope again to make the machine run at idle speed.

Preheating: Idle for 3–5 minutes, observe that the chain does not rotate (no follow-up rotation); Lightly press the accelerator, the chain should rotate smoothly, the chain oil should be normally discharged.

Hot Engine Startup: No need to pull the choke, directly press the fuel pump 2 times, pull the start rope to start.

IV. Correct Grip and Cutting Techniques

1. Standard Posture (Anti-Rebound)

Both hands: Right hand holds the rear handle (thumb wraps around), left hand holds the front handle, arms naturally straight.

Posture: Body at a 90° angle to the guide plate, knees slightly bent, weight shifted back; Never operate with one hand.

Danger zone of rebound: The tip of the guide plate (upper 1/3), avoid contact with the wood to cause high-speed rebound.

2. Cutting Method

Small diameter (< 10cm): The guide plate is at a 30° angle to the wood, use the weight of the saw to cut slowly, do not forcibly press.

Large diameter (> 10cm): First cut 1/3 (release opening) → then cut through, prevent the saw from clamping and splitting.

Thick branches: First cut the opening → then cut through the opening, segmental cutting; Prevent the branch from suddenly breaking and getting caught in the chain.

Logging: First cut the opening (accounting for 1/3 of the diameter) → then cut the upper opening (slightly higher than the lower opening), control the direction of the fall; Never stand in the direction of the tree's fall.

V. Shutdown and Completion

Cool the body for 1 minute at idle speed.

Turn off ** power switch (OFF) ** and extinguish the fire.

Cleaning: Remove wood chips, oil stains from the guide plate, chain, air filter; Check chain wear, lubricate in time.

Storage: Empty fuel, place in a dry and ventilated place; Chain can be removed and immersed in oil for rust prevention.

VI. Safety Red Lines (Absolutely Prohibited)

❌ Operating with one hand, high-altitude (above the shoulders) without protective gear.

❌ The tip of the guide plate touches the wood (anti-rebound).

❌ Chain without oil / running at high speed without oil. ❌ Rainy weather, strong wind (≥5 levels), after drinking alcohol, fatigued operation.

❌ Before maintenance/checking, engine not turned off, spark plug cap not removed.

Common Fault Quick Resolution

Starting difficulty: ① Incorrect throttle position; ② Incorrect fuel ratio / fuel deterioration; ③ Carbon buildup on spark plugs / cylinder blockage; ④ Air filter clogged.

Chain not rotating: ① Brakes not released; ② Chain too tight and stuck; ③ Clutch worn out.

Clamping saw: ① Incorrect cutting sequence; ② Excessive wood stress; Immediately stop the machine, use a wedge to open the cut and then slowly withdraw.
