The reasons for the insufficient power of the brush cutter
I. Basic Appearance Inspection (No need to disassemble the machine; prioritize checking)
Air filter clogging
The filter is blocked by grass debris and dust, resulting in insufficient air intake, incomplete combustion, and a significant decrease in power.
Treatment: Use a brush to clean; wash and dry the filter; replace if damaged.
Excessive load / Component issues
The nylon grass head is tangled with weeds, the blade is deformed / blunt, or gets stuck in stones and soil, causing a dramatic increase in running resistance.
Treatment: Stop the machine to remove the tangled objects, grind or replace the blade and worn-out grass head.
Abnormal fuel supply
Insufficient fuel, fuel deterioration due to long storage; for two-stroke engines, the oil ratio is too high, causing the engine to overheat and reduce power.
Treatment: Empty the old fuel, add fresh fuel, and strictly mix the oil according to the machine's specifications.
Abnormal throttle control
The throttle cable is stuck or the stroke is insufficient, preventing the engine from reaching the maximum speed.
Treatment: Straighten the cable, lubricate the stuck area, and adjust the throttle to fully open.
II. Fuel Path Faults (Most Common)
Carburetor clogging / Poor atomization
The fuel passage and metering holes are clogged with oil and dirt, resulting in insufficient fuel supply and symptoms such as normal idle speed, lack of power under load, and easy stalling.
Treatment: Disassemble and clean the carburetor; if necessary, adjust the fuel needle; replace if severely clogged.
Fuel filter / Fuel pipe faults
The filter in the fuel tank is clogged, the fuel pipe is aging and leaking, or the pipeline is bent and compressed, causing intermittent fuel supply.
Treatment: Replace the filter, aged fuel pipe, and straighten the pipeline to avoid compression.
III. Ignition System Faults
Spark plug issues
Carbon buildup, electrode erosion, offset gap, resulting in weak spark, incomplete combustion, and accompanying vibrations and difficulty in accelerating.
Treatment: Clean the carbon buildup, adjust the electrode gap; replace if damaged.
High-voltage distributor faults
Insufficient ignition voltage, significant power reduction under heavy load.
Treatment: Check the spark jumping strength, replace the high-voltage distributor after the fault.
IV. Exhaust System Blockage
Clogged muffler and exhaust outlet, poor exhaust flow, engine "stalling", unable to reach the desired speed.
Treatment: Remove the muffler and thoroughly clean the clogged areas; replace if severely clogged.
V. Transmission and Mechanical Faults
Clutch slipping
Clutch blockage, insufficient spring elasticity, high idle speed of the engine, slow blade rotation, and insufficient cutting power.
Treatment: Remove the clutch cover, replace the clutch block and spring.
Gearbox faults
Gear wear, damaged bearings, lack of gear oil, resulting in high transmission resistance, accompanied by abnormal noise and overheating of the machine.
Treatment: Add or replace the gear oil, replace damaged parts promptly.
VI. Internal Engine Wear (Severe Faults)
Wear of piston, piston ring, cylinder block or slight cylinder seizure, insufficient cylinder compression pressure, significant power loss, often accompanied by blue smoke and abnormal noise.
Mainly caused by long-term lack of maintenance, insufficient oil, and long-term lack of cleaning of the air filter.
Treatment: Disassemble and inspect, replace piston rings, cylinder assembly.
Quick Self-check Procedure (Follow the sequence)
Clean the air filter and remove debris from the blade head → 2. Replace the new fuel, check the fuel mixing ratio → 3. Check if the throttle is fully open
If ineffective: Inspect the spark plugs → Clean the carburetor, clean the muffler
Still unable to operate: Check the clutch, gearbox → Finally inspect the internal engine
