Comprehensive Maintenance Instructions for Hedge Trimmers When Not in Use for a Long Time (Applicable to Two-Stroke Gasoline Models)
I. Machine Shutdown and Cleaning (First Step Before Storage)
Shut down the machine and let it cool completely before handling.
Clean the blades, the body, and the heat sink of any branches, soil, and debris. Use a brush and air blower to clean them. Do not directly spray water into the engine.
Clean the air filter:
Foam air filter: Wash, squeeze dry, and thoroughly dry. Apply a thin layer of engine oil before reinstalling.
Paper air filter: Blow off the dust. Replace if damaged or clogged.
II. Critical Maintenance of the Fuel System (Most Prone to Failure)
If not in use for over a month, drain all the fuel.
Empty the fuel tank and start the machine at idle until it shuts off by itself. Burn off any remaining fuel in the carburetor and fuel lines.
Consequences of not doing this: The fuel will deteriorate and form gum, clogging the carburetor and fuel lines, making it difficult to start the machine next year or even rendering it unusable.
III. Blade Maintenance (Core Wearable Part)
Clean the oil and grass stains from the blades and dry them.
Apply a thin layer of engine oil or anti-rust oil to both sides of the blades to prevent rust and sticking.
Check for any chipped or loose teeth on the blades and tighten the screws.
Do not press or bend the blades to avoid deformation.
IV. Rust Prevention for the Engine Interior
Remove the spark plug and clean the carbon deposits on the electrodes.
Drop 5-10 ml of two-stroke engine oil into the cylinder.
Pull the starter handle 3-5 times to evenly coat the cylinder walls and piston with oil for rust prevention.
Reinstall the spark plug.
V. General Lubrication and Details
Apply a small amount of engine oil to the throttle cable and moving joints for rust prevention.
Check for any signs of aging or cracking on the oil lines and hoses.
Set the throttle switch and kill switch to the off position.
VI. Storage Requirements
Store in a dry, well-ventilated, and cool room, away from ground moisture, rain, direct sunlight, and damp corners of the warehouse.
Lift the machine off the ground to prevent moisture and rust.
Cover with a dust cover or plastic bag to protect from dust, moisture, and dirt.
Straighten the power cord and starter rope to avoid bending or squeezing.
VII. Regular Maintenance for Long-Term Storage
Check once every 1-2 months for rust, moisture, or rodent damage.
If stored for more than six months, it is recommended to replace the spark plug, use a new fuel mixture, and inspect the air filter and blades before use.
