Proper Usage and Safety Precautions for Gasoline Chainsaws
I. Preparations Before Use
1. Personal Protection
It is necessary to wear complete protective gear:
impact-resistant goggles, noise-canceling earplugs, dust masks
anti-slip thick labor protection gloves, cut-resistant work clothes, labor protection shoes
Long hair should be tied up. Loose clothes and slippers are not allowed to be worn to prevent the chain from getting caught.
2. Whole Machine Inspection
Check the chain: The tension is moderate, not loose or shaky, the blade is sharp, and there are no cracks or chips.
The guide plate: There is no deformation or cracks, and the lubrication holes are unobstructed.
Brake guard, guard hand, off switch, accelerator lever are sensitive and normal.
Check the oil pump, oil circuit, and oil pipes for aging and leakage.
All screws, chain cover, handle are firmly tightened. Safety protective parts must not be removed.
3. Mixing Oil (Key for Two-Stroke Chainsaws)
Strictly follow the machine's marked ratio. Common ratios are 25:1, 40:1, 50:1.
Use special two-stroke engine oil + 92-grade unleaded gasoline. Do not use vehicle engine oil as a substitute.
Add oil first, then add gasoline, shake well to mix. Do not directly add pure gasoline to start the machine.
When adding, keep away from open flames and cigarette butts. After the machine is turned off and cooled, add oil.
II. Correct Startup Steps
Place the chainsaw flat on a stable surface, with the chain suspended and not touching any debris.
Fasten the chain brake (push the guard hand forward).
Turn off the air intake (cold machine), press the oil pump to pump oil.
Hold the front handle steady, slowly pull the start rope, and preheat at idle speed for 2–3 minutes.
For hot machine startup, there is no need to turn off the air intake. Wait for the engine to run smoothly before releasing the brake and starting work.
Do not stand within 5 meters of the machine when starting. To prevent the chain from swinging and injuring someone.
III. Correct Operating Methods for Cutting Trees and Sawing Wood
1. Holding Posture
Hold the front and rear handles tightly with both hands. Stand sideways with your body stable, and keep your feet apart to maintain a stable center of gravity.
Do not face the straight line direction of the saw chain. Avoid the rebound area.
2. Sawing Method
Start at a stable idle speed, align with the edge of the wood, gently press and insert slowly, do not forcefully press the machine.
Use the chain's own pulling force to feed the material. Do not hard press or forcefully grip the chainsaw. This is prone to rebound, engine stalling, and chain damage.
Maintain a uniform speed during the cutting process. Do not forcibly twist the chainsaw left and right.
3. Key to Preventing Rebound (Most Important)
Do not use the top sharp corner of the guide plate to hit the wood or cut.
The top touching a hard object can easily rebound backward and hit someone instantly, which is the most common cause of serious injuries for chainsaws.
Always use the middle and lower section of the guide plate for cutting. Keep the chain brake ready at all times.
4. Tree Cutting Sequence
Look at the direction of the tree's fall, avoid power lines, houses, and pedestrians.
Start from the force-bearing opening (the opening facing the direction of fall), then cut the back-cutting opening, leaving a hinge wood, and do not cut all at once.
When the tree is about to fall, immediately exit the saw opening, move to the rear safe position, and do not stand in the direction of the fall.
V. Prohibitions and Safety Rules During Work
People who are drunk, fatigued, or minors are strictly prohibited from operating the chainsaw.
Do not work in rainy weather, strong wind, slippery ground, or with poor visibility.
Do not touch the chain while the machine is running. Clearing wood chips and clamping the chainsaw must first turn off the engine, and the chain must be completely stopped before proceeding.
If you notice severe vibration, abnormal noise, no oil supply to the chain, oil leakage, or sudden drop in power, immediately turn off the engine and stop.
Do not operate the chainsaw handheld on high places, ladders, or while climbing trees. It is very likely to fall and get injured.
Do not modify the chain, remove the protection, remove the brake, or increase the speed limit. This is extremely dangerous.
VI. Stopping and Maintaining the Machine After Work
Turn off the accelerator for a moment and then turn off the off switch.
Wait for the machine to cool down, then clean the guide plate, chain wood chips, and oil stains.
Check the chain tension and blade wear. Polish or replace them in time.
Clean the air filter and spark plug carbon deposits. Replace the oil and maintain the oil pump regularly.
Long-term storage: Empty the mixed oil, remove the chain, apply oil for rust prevention, and store it in a dry, ventilated place where children cannot reach.
VII. Daily Tips
Run the machine in neutral for a few seconds before each operation to confirm that the automatic oil pump is functioning properly.
Replace the dull chain promptly. A dull chain is difficult to operate, prone to rebound, and can damage the machine.
When cutting wet wood or hard wood, reduce the feed speed to prevent chain jamming and machine stalling.
